Since Willie fell from his bumper ride

Posted in: Little Willie Poems |

Since Willie fell from his bumper ride,
Was dragged through gravel and lost some hide,
It may be weeks before he can sit.
Pa says Will has plenty of grit.

Amid his friends’ most frantic calls.

Our children start to drift away.”

Willie, having fun with matches,
Burned his mother’s Easter bonnet.
There’s a place where some wear patches–
Willie now can’t sit upon it.

Willie, hitting at a ball,
Lined one down the school-house hall.

Very shiny, very black,
Caught his little sister, Sou:
Willie said, “This is on you.”
Little Sou was dumb with fear,
So Willie left a Sou-veneer.

Published in The Independent, Volume 64, S.W. Bennett, 1908.

*Jap-a-lac was a “floor varnish and stain combined.”
